I believe in the need for a modern Australian Constitution. I support RETHINK AUSTRALIA's plan to keep all the important checks, balances and institutions of our existing Constitution – protecting what works well, but adding new material to allow our system of government to cope with the demands of a new century.

I call on all our political leaders to make the modernisation of Australia's Constitution a top priority. Together, we pledge to use our power as citizens and voters to create an improved political system that:

• Unshackles Australia from its colonial past.
• Delivers prosperity while protecting our environment.
• Recognises all cultural groups, especially Indigenous Australians.
• Guarantees the rights and responsibilities of individuals and institutions.
• Devolves local governance to Local Government.
• Sets high standards for public services.
• Engages citizens in a partnership using non-adversarial political processes.

About the Pledge

Lending us your support will accomplish three objectives:

1. Showing our Federal and State parliamentarians there is broad public support for constitutional modernisation.
2. Showing political parties the public is seeking bipartisan leadership for constitutional modernisation.
3. Allowing RETHINK AUSTRALIA to know who might be interested in participating in public consultations and deliberations on constitutional modernisation.

RETHINK AUSTRALIA will publish the names and position/titles of signatories to this pledge only. All personal contact details will remain confidential and will not be disclosed to other organisations or individuals, unless they are working directly on our behalf to achieve RETHINK AUSTRALIA’s objectives.
