Citizens Charter supports and is bound by the Australian Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000 and the National Privacy Principles. We have internal data protection and electronic data transmission procedures and all donations and communications made on-line via our web-site are secure.

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully to understand how your personal information will be treated by Citizens Charter. By using this web site, you consent to the uses mentioned.

Privacy and You

You can browse this web site without telling us who you are or revealing any information that personally identifies you ("personal information"). When we do collect personal information it is used to:

  • Process donations, memberships and pledges
  • Issue receipts
  • Respond to your comments or questions
  • Provide follow up information about Citizens Charter
  • Seek your ongoing support
  • Research supporter attitudes, or
  • For internal reporting purposes
At any time you may choose not to receive some or all of our supporter communications, or not to be contacted for research by emailing us at: general@citizenscharter.org
You can also choose to remain anonymous; however in that case, receipts cannot be issued for your contributions.
Citizens Charter does not collect information about anyone's ethnic origins, political or religious beliefs, sexual preferences or criminal record.

Donations

As a supporter of Citizens Charter you are giving us permission to charge your credit card and/or debit bank accounts. Your financial institution requires Citizens Charter to retain a copy of the Direct Debit request on our premises and by law we must keep a record of your financial details for seven years.

Disclosure

Client information is never disclosed to other organisations or individuals without your consent, unless they are working directly on our behalf or we are required to do so by law. We never rent, sell or give away the information we collect from you.
Citizens Charter employs other companies to perform commercial and analytical functions on our behalf such as sending mail, providing marketing assistance and processing credit card payments. Such agents have access only to the personal information necessary to perform their functions and strict privacy and security agreements prevent them from using this information for any other purposes.
If the law requires us to disclose personal information (such as court order, or public emergency) we reserve the right to do so at our discretion and without your consent.

Protection of personal information

Citizens Charter actively seeks to ensure your personal information is protected from loss, misuse, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Access to personal information is restricted to the management and authorised employees of Citizens Charter carrying out permitted commercial functions.
